In Slovenia, the same sign is used as in Germany,[33] where vehicles can turn right at any time at a red light, but do not have a right of way. Some intersections also have a green arrow light that lights up when right turns are allowed. [34] [35] Historically, another sign with the same meaning was used in the sixties, a curved arrow in green on a small white rectangular sign mounted under a traffic light. [36] [37] Some drivers may wonder if they should stop and then turn or simply wait for the arrow to turn green. In Romania, right turns in red are only allowed if there is a small green flashing light with a right turn arrow. Drivers must yield to pedestrians and oncoming vehicles from the left. In some one-way streets, the same rule applies to the left on the red (such as Cluj-Napoca Avram Iancu square). At intersections where U-turns are allowed and controlled by a U-turn arrow in the left lane, motorists turning right red on the same road must yield to those who turn around before turning, as motorists who turn around have the right of way and a collision could easily occur. The exception is Pennsylvania, where U-turns are allowed, unless otherwise stated, under the same rule as the right on red, drivers who turn around must yield to all drivers who perform legal maneuvers, including turning right on red. At intersections where U-turns are prohibited in the same way, a green right-turn arrow sometimes appears for those turning right on the road, allowing only right-hand traffic to continue without stopping or yielding to other vehicles or pedestrians. Some states, such as California, have placed “No U-turn” signs at these intersections because of the green right turn arrow. In Canada, a driver can turn right at a red light after stopping completely, unless a sign indicates otherwise. In the province of Quebec, turning right on a red was illegal until a 2003 pilot study showed that turning right to red did not result in many more accidents.

Following the study, the province of Quebec now allows right turns to red unless a sign prohibits it. However, as in New York, it remains illegal to turn right on a red somewhere on the island of Montreal. [11] Motorists are reminded of this rule by large signs at the entrance to all bridges. Between 1982 and 1992, there were about 84 fatal accidents per year in the United States, in which a vehicle turned right at intersections where turning right to red was allowed. [41] Another reason for the confusion is that the law was amended in 2012, but no one bothered to notify state drivers. Many in government did not even know that. They thought it was legal to turn around as it was before, but the 2012 change means that`s no longer the case. In Poland, right-to-red turns are only allowed if an additional green arrow light (outside the main signal light) is present and lit. However, the regulation requires drivers to stop completely when their paths pass through other vehicles or pedestrians in at least one direction. The green light can also be directed to the left (the same rules apply).
