Dal Med School Requirements

The MD program does not accept international and U.S. applicants. However, there are government-sponsored surplus positions available at Dalhousie. This means that a small number of students (no more than 7) from abroad are sponsored to attend medical school in Halifax. This program is usually organized between the Canadian government and its diplomatic allies. The Indigenous Student Leadership Award recognizes the leadership skills of an outstanding Indigenous student in his final year of study, currently enrolled in one of Canada`s 17 faculties of medicine. While Dalhousie`s writing requirement is different from the typical medical school personal statement, it is still an extremely important selection factor in your application. Their answers allow you to see yourself as more than just a collection of scores, notes, and activity lists. Each answer highlights a different facet of your personality and brings your app to life. Therefore, it is important to write a great answer to each question. You need to spend enough time thinking about each question and giving a detailed and logically structured answer. Instead of a long personal essay, Dalhousie Medical School asks candidates to answer 5 short-answer questions.

These questions are designed to assess a variety of non-academic qualities and attributes. All submissions will be anonymized for review, so do not include identifiers such as your name, MCAT score, or GPA score in your responses. You have a limit of 250 words or 1700 characters, including spaces, for each answer, and you cannot submit your answer if it exceeds this limit. How will your application be evaluated by the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine Admissions Committee? All applicants must submit the completed Section 1 of the Dalhousie School of Medicine online application form by July 31 of the application year. In this form, you provide important personal and contact information. There is a $70 application processing fee. Eligibility for admission to Dalhousie`s undergraduate medical education program requires applicants to meet the academic requirements (GPA, MCAT) and non-academic requirements established by CASPer, MMI and Personal Statements/Supplementary. As you can see, you need to provide reviews for all the sections and activities you list. Be sure to provide the latest contact information. We also strongly recommend that you contact all your auditors in advance and inform them of your request so that they are sufficiently prepared to make appropriate recommendations. The school will contact your examiners by email and/or phone between November and February. Non-maritime or non-provincial applicants must submit an additional short essay in response to the following call: “Please describe in 250 words or less your knowledge of the connections and experiences with the Maritime provinces and how they contributed to your selection of Dalhousie University as your preferred medical school choice.” All eligible marine applicants who have met the GPA, MCAT and CASPer requirements and who have submitted an online application and processing fee will be invited to an interview.

Out of a total of 300 to 400 candidates invited to an interview, approximately 60 to 100 are suitable candidates outside the province. Your eligibility is determined by GPA, MCAT, CASPer and additional information about the applicant`s compelling reasons for choosing Dalhousie University`s Faculty of Medicine. The Medical Student Leadership Award recognizes the leadership qualities of outstanding medical students. One student will be selected from each of Canada`s 17 medical schools. A letter of support from a faculty member reviewing your leadership skills must be attached. These letters are an important part of the selection process and should contain sufficient information to support your proven interest in family medicine and your leadership, academic and/or research performance skills, communication skills, publications, and non-medical/societal interests. Courses in the fall/winter and spring/summer semesters are suitable for calculating surrogacy as long as they contribute to the graduation requirements. Pass/fail and credit/no credit rates are not included in the calculation of surrogacy.

This includes exchange programs and/or semesters abroad. The problems identified by the U.S. team were mainly related to the management, monitoring and evaluation of curricula. Failed grades were also awarded because computer databases were not updated and the school`s senior administrative officer did not have sufficient resources and authority to manage and evaluate the curriculum.
