In the United Kingdom, Australia, Hong Kong, Ireland and certain other English common law jurisdictions, a trainee lawyer is a prospective lawyer who undergoes professional training at a law firm or in-house legal team to qualify as a full-fledged lawyer. This internship is called a training contract and usually lasts two years. Directors recognize the high level of legal competence achieved, and experienced lawyers recognize the value of a wide range of legal work in government early in their careers. Internships are earned in the open labour market, and there is no guarantee that a graduate will receive one. In the past five years, 24% of graduates have not started an internship. [4] The goal of the departments is to offer all individuals hired as trainee lawyers a permanent position after the successful completion of the trainee lawyers. However, this can never be guaranteed. S&C`s London office has been recruiting trainee lawyers since 2011.
