Another page on my list for today: Emma Chase`s The Legal Briefs series. In my review of Romancing Manhattan, I mentioned that after All it Takes, I got into a spiral of legal romances — and that`s what I talked about. The Legal Briefs series was truly a surprise and let me tell you what I think of each book in this series that I absolutely loved: Emma Chase is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of humorous, warmth, and heartfelt romances. His books have been published in more than 20 languages and selected for the film. Tangled, Emma`s iconic romantic comedy, was recently released by Passionflix and her royal romance Royally Screwed will soon hit screens. Bourbon flows, passions rise, and even the best plans are canceled out by the desires of the heart. “The ride is the only thing worth crashing. When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn`t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a confident and amazing woman. who wants to crush the most intimate – and precious – parts of his anatomy under the heels of his Christian Louboutin. Brent never let the loss of his leg in a childhood accident affect his ability to live a fulfilling life. He sets high goals – and then he achieves them. When Kennedy looks at Brent Mason, she sees only the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalog-worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school to join the popular crowd.
A lot of things that made those years hell. She`s no longer a love-seeking social outsider — she`s a DC prosecutor with a long winning streak behind her. Brent is the opposing party`s lawyer in her next case and she thinks it`s time to take him through a little hell. But things don`t happen exactly like that. Because with every fiery exchange of blows, she wonders if he is as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. Every argument and objection only makes him want it even more. In the end, Brent and Kennedy may well find themselves in love. or in defiance of the court. (via Goodreads) Emma Chase, bestselling author of the New York Times Tangled series, returns with the first part of the Legal Briefs series! Young love is strong.
First love is powerful. But what you don`t know when you`re young – what you can`t know – is how long life actually lasts. And the only reliable thing about it, aside from death and taxes, is change. And there you have it, my favorite book in the Legal Briefs series. Sustained is one of the best romantic comedies I`ve read this year and probably never! I finished it in the middle of a day`s work. I feel like I`ve expressed my love for this series, and Sustained in particular, almost everywhere: Discord servers, Twitter book, Bookstagram; I even recommended it to my sister! If that doesn`t tell you much, I don`t know what`s going to happen? 😂 I know I`m super late to the party, but if you haven`t already, drop everything and read Sustain by Emma Chase. It`s the perfect balance between romantic, hilarious and spicy. He found a family with lovely and lovely children.
Besides romance, it`s also about other types of love, reinventing yourself and highlighting the importance of having a mentor in your life: someone who believes in you. It`s all these different levels that really made this book so much more. It includes many well-known tropes, but the right combination, pace, and writing have taken this book to another level. It was so worth putting up with the mediocre first book Overruled. Looking back, I know that Sustained totally reinforced the desire to read Emma Chase`s books. Sustained is the second book in this series to focus on Jake Becker, the gang`s resident bad boy and DC`s tough defender (well, who in this group of friends isn`t that, right?). It tells the story of Jake meeting Chelsea and the McQuiad brood – which kind of turned his world upside down. The blurb looks charming on paper, but reading it (or better yet, hearing it) was an entirely different experience. This book made me so happy. I don`t usually like kids, but apparently I love reading about them when they`re as adorable as the McQuiad kids. Add in the narrative that was pretty much right. I usually don`t pay too much attention to who tells my audiobooks, but Sebastian York (aka Jake Becker) was such a delight.
(Sebastian York swearing in an audiobook = one for books 💯) As a DC defender, Stanton Shaw keeps a cool head, his pointed questions and his irrefutable arguments. They don`t call him the jury charmer for nothing – with his southern drawing, disarming smile and charming green eyes, he`s a tough man you can say no to. Men want to be him and women want to be thoroughly cross-examined by him. Stanton is a man with a plan. And for a while, life proceeded according to this plan. Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school lover and mother of his beloved ten-year-old daughter.
